The Foundation donated library books to Gilgil Community Library on 8th May 2017. The Library was established in 2009 by the late Mwalimu James Ayako Waka. He single handedly lobbied to have a functional library by whatever means possible. History has it that the building housing the library has metamorphosed from a bar to a school : James Kihonge Secondary School and then to a library. Records indicate that he employed two members of staff and paid their salaries from his own pocket. Real sacrifices were made.
Mr. Mukesh Desai and Mr. Suli Shah, presented the books to the community at Gilgil. At the event Mr. Mukesh Desai said that it was an important day for DMF, because we are committed to promoting education. Libraries give people the opportunity to find jobs, explore, research, experience new ideas, and get lost in wonderful stories, while at the same time providing a sense of place for gathering. Libraries are unique and valuable resources for communities. It is a lifeline to the world with all the information in it. It is our hope that the Gilgil Community Library will reflect the diversity, character and expectations of our community. The event was held in conjunction with the Rotary Group (Nbi), who donated shelves and desks to the library.
